Volkswagen T2

Within 12 years, 2,5 million transporters just of this generation were produced from 1967 on.
Many examples of this kind of iconic car are now rotting on scrapyards, while the same model is still built with only minor changes in Brasil.
However, the fate of the car in the picture is rather special, as it has been abandoned on a city street in Scotland.
As everyone knows how a VW Transporter looks, here is another abandoned example instead of a comparison picture.

BMW 502

This BMW 502 is standing on a scrapyard in Switzerland.
Although only 23000 examples were built between 1952 and 1964, the "Barockengel" was, just as the 507, important for BMW to find it's role in the car market after the war.
Nowadays, this model is so rare that even in the condition of the pictured example a restauration could be worth consideration, as good examples cost about 50000€.
After such a treatment, the now abandoned car could look like that one again:

Toyota Supra

The third generation of the Supra, which was the first one not called "Celica Supra", was a nice sports car and the most expensive Toyota sold between 1986 and 1992.
The one in the pictures is from 1989 and has the most powerful engine that was available, which means it has 235hp for its 1550kg. So it only needs 6.3 seconds from 0 to 100km/h and has a top speed of 245km/h.
But obviously, this one has already been standing there for some years and would need some new tires, new paint and probably some work on the technical parts.
Then it would look like this one and would also be worth some thousand Euros again.

Hyundai Lantra

I don't know why this Hyundai Lantra has been abandoned, but as it is the 1994/95 model, it is comparably new for a car abandoned somewhere else than Dubai (Portugal in this case).
The Lantra was not an especially remarkable or good car, but it was cheap and therefore it was sold in satisfying numbers.
Nowadays, used Hyundai Lantras are so cheap that bigger repairs just don't make any sense, which probably is the reason for the car in the picture having been abandoned.
Even if it was in perfect shape like the car below, it would not be worth more than 2000€.

Simca 1100

Won't write too much this time, the pictures speak for themselves.
The Simca was produced more than 2 million times between 1968 and 1981.
Later, the make was converted to Talbot by the owner, Peugeot.

Dodge 600 Convertible

Called Dodge 400 before, this model got a facelift in 1984 and was known as Dodge 600 from then on.
The car in the picture is from 1986, the last year the convertible version was built.
41400 examples of the convertible were sold, meaning they are not a common sight today.
Without visible rust, but with flat tires, the one in the picture is sitting between other abandoned cars.
Otherwise, it could look like this (couldn't find one with covered headlights, seem to be rare):

Plymouth Arrow

The driveway of a house is a strange place for an abandoned car.
However, this 1976 Plymouth Arrow 160 has been left there and does not look like it will move soon.
In fact, the Plymouth Arrow was a Mitsubishi Lancer Celeste, but as Mitsubishi did not officially sell cars in North America in this time, this model was sold as a Plymouth in the USA and as a Dodge in Canada from 1976 to 1980.
144000 cars were sold. Interestingly, Plymouth used the name "Arrow" for a truck from 1981 on.
The example in the picture is equipped with the basic 1.6-litre engine.
Notice the white-wall-tire and the original extra-headlamps.

Suzuki Vitara

A quite new abandoned car here.

The Suzuki Vitara was sold from 1988 to 1998, the car in the pictures is from 1993.
In some countries it was known as "Sidekick".
Although this example here looks quite good and complete, it is standing in someone's garden not likely to be used ever again. Maybe the engine is broken, otherwise it really looks as if a cleaning would be enough to bring it back on the road. The Vitara is said to be reliable though, so that option also does not seem to probable.
However, this is how the car looked 18 years ago:

Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 was built more than 3 million times. Like every model produced in masses, some examples have not been cared for.
The car in the pictures is one of them. Without an engine or headlights it is sure to rot there forever or to be crushed.
Nevertheless, it is a small part of the big history of the Fiat 500.
As the successor to the famous Topolino, it was produced from 1957 till 1975 and was a big success. The example in the picture was produced before 1970.

The carreer of the 500 is not over yet. The current Fiat 500 has a retro design reminding of the old 500.
And in Japan, Duesen Bayern is building 500-"replicas" based on the Nissan Micra (called "Ritz"):

Citroën CX Break

This Citroën CX Break is obviously completely lost. Standing in the middle of bushes, it is rusting away and many parts are missing.
The CX, which was produced from 1974 to 1991, was sold more than 1 million times.
The Break (estate-version) was introduced in 1976 and made up a big part in the sale numbers. It was also available with 8 seats.
But as many of these cars have been scrapped, you can almost call the CX rare and extremely good examples can cost 20000€ now.

Audi A8

Time for another abandoned car from Dubai, I think.

Not much to write about the Audi A8. It has been the big luxury limousine by Audi since 1994.
The second generation started in 2002, and the facelifted model you see in the picture was sold between 2005 and 2009.
It was probably dumped on the airport, when in the recession last year, managers flew the country in order to not be arrested.

The nice car abandoned here once looked similar to this one:

Saab 96

The Saab 96 was first introduced to the market in 1960. After five years, it got a big facelift that made it look like the example in the picture, which is rusting away somewhere in Colorado, USA. That also means it has a four stroke cycle engine, which was a big innovation for Saab.
The next facelift in 1969 changed the headlights to a form that was kept nearly untouched until the end of the production in 1980.
Pay attention to the wooden bumper of the abandoned Saab.
As usual in the 1960s, the bumper originally was chrome, as you can see here:

Chevrolet Biscayne

This beautiful 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne has been photographed on a scrapyard.
It was the smallest Chevrolet at that time, although it is 5,31m long.
In my opinion, it looks amazing with that mixture of rust and matte paint.

I wasn't able to find a picture of the Bicayne from the back in original shape, but this one is obviously restored and tuned:

Datsun 411 Bluebird SS

This Datsun was found in the yard of a Canadian Nissan dealership.
The model has been built from 1964 to 1967, changing its name from 410 with a minor facelift in 1965. As the difference between the 1964 and 1965 model is only recongizable by changed letters on the fender, which are missing on this car here, I can't tell whether this is a 410 or a 411. However, it was definitely built before 1966, as the grille changed in this year.
The SS-version was Datsun's "performance-saloon" with 65 hp compared to 45 to 60 hp in the normal models.

Jaguar XJ220

Ok, already the second Jaguar here. But this time, it is more exclusive.
A photographer found this in a desert in Quatar:

The Jaguar XJ220 has only been built 284 times between 1992 and 1994. With a maximum speed of 341 km/h, it was one of the fastest road cars at that time.
Good examples can easily cost more than 200000€ nowadays.
The car in the pictures is said to only have driven 900 kilometres before being abandoned.
As you can see in the images, it is full of scratches and dents. Really hard to imagine why anyone would leave such a car on the roadside.

Peugeot 504 Coupe

Here we have a Peugeot 504 Coupe just standing on a street in the Netherlands.

The car looks more or less undamaged, only the paint will probably have suffered from the dirt on it.
But the fact it has two different rims could tell that the owner did not care about it all too much even before he abandoned the car on the roadside.
The 504 was one of the most successful models by Peugeot. First introduced in 1968, the last 504 was built in Nigeria in 2005. In Europe, the production ended in 1983 though.
The Coupe, just as the convertible, was built in the same time, but in much smaller numbers. So nowadays, this model is rare and quite expensive.
The car in the photo was built after 1975, recognizable by the large taillights. So it has 106 or 144 bhp.

As you can see, the abandoned car does not have the original bumper and front rim anymore.

VW Karmann Ghia

This Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (Type 14) has been photographed on a historical car scrapyard in Switzerland. The car has been produced between 1955 and 1974, the one in the picture is an early model built before 1959, as you can recognize from the small grille. Full of dirt and moss, this coveted classic sure is a heavy project for a restauration.
Nevertheless, someone actually bought it, when all cars on the scrapyard were sold. According to the seller, it is the 1958 model.
